The Governor of Wisconsin was just interviewed on TV... he is pretty excited about the decision by the Illinois legislature to significantly raise personal and corporate tax rates. I have read excerpts from Indiana's Governor that are along the same lines. They are both saying, "Don't pay those taxes, come to our State!"
Would anyone be surprised to see business owners who are hoping to expand, merge or start something new decide to locate across the border in a neighboring state? Would anyone be surprised to see an increase in the number of families choosing to relocate outside of Illinois (like California)? Would you be surprised if the unemployment rate in surrounding states started to improve faster than the State of Illinois? The final straw would be if the tax revenues of the surrounding states actually started to grow faster than Illinois tax revenues due to more businesses and more families paying taxes...
